Meet Jay Ovittore
Jay Ovittore was born in Northern New Jersey in 1973 and grew up in the public school system. He entered the work force and quickly learned the value of a dollar while honing his skills as a musician. He worked as a professional drummer in numerous popular bands in New Jersey and traveled throughout the Northeast. In 1990 when his father Lou was transferred, Jay moved to North Carolina to remain close to his family.
In Greensboro, Jay resumed playing music with several regional touring acts while working as a painter. Jay’s natural inclination as a detail oriented individual sharpened his skills and moved his painting business into high demand.
Jay continued painting and playing music when he was offered an audio production job by Common Mode, Inc, a production house for Simon and Schuster Audio. Jay decided to jump at this creativity-based job opportunity and moved back North in 1996. Through his productions, he worked closely with talented people including Christopher Meloni, John Walsh and Carroll O'Connor. After the events of 9/11 and in consideration of Jay's father's ill health, Jay gave up his 'dream job' and moved back to North Carolina to help his family.
Back in North Carolina, Jay continued playing drums with musical groups, recorded a CD and toured with National endorsements until he decided to start his own painting and contracting company. He’s been working successfully for the people of Greensboro ever since.
Jay Ovittore Goes Online
Jay began blogging in 2004, using a different medium to express his creative side. His blog quickly gained local and national attention with posts picked up by The Guardian Online and Media Critic/ NYU Professor Jay Rosen. Jay participated as a volunteer instructor, encouraging the use of this new online technology, including a blogging teach-in for politicians when very few in politics were even thinking of going online. He has helped NC House Rep. Pricey Harrison learn more about the technology and still helps maintain her blog. All of this new media expertise led to Jay's work with the ConvergeSouth Conference that promotes creativity online for all people.
Jay was elected as President of the Young Democrats of Guilford County in 2006 and then elected to 3rd Vice Chair of the Guilford County Democratic Party. During his tenure, Jay petitioned and secured the Young Democrats of North Carolina convention in Guilford County at the Koury Convention Center. Jay was able to help secure as the keynote speaker US House Representative Artur Davis from Alabama, who is the current recruiting chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. His hard work allowed for Guilford County to have the honor of hosted the largest YDNC convention on record. In Jay’s blog posts, he has covered both national and local issues. Through the required research, Jay realized how concerned the people were who were reading his online diaries and reporting. In 2006, Jay began covering Federal Election Commission violations committed by national and regional candidates. Concerned by what he found, Jay did opposition research for the Brad Miller for Congress campaign. His investigations resulted in Miller's opponent having to admit his campaign's incompetence to Federal Election laws and repay donations made over the legal limits.

Jay Ovittore and the Young Demcrats of North Carolina
Jay also worked assiduously with the Young Democrats of North Carolina in the State Legislature. Jay advocated with the YDNC for Same-Day Registration allowing NC citizens to go to early voting sites and register to vote and vote at the same time.
He also worked to pass the Sudanese Divestment bill to pull money being invested in Sudanese companies that are found to support the government backed genocide in Darfur.
Jay was appointed to the Human Relations Commission in 2007 for the City of Greensboro where he hears the concerns of discrimination from the citizens of Greensboro and helps to find solutions to these problems. He also sits on the Education Committee and Fair Housing Committee.
Looking forward to the future,
I am enjoying meeting and listening to the concerns of the people of the 6th Congressional District of North Carolina. I believe together we can find solutions to the problems we face every day. We need a change from how things are run; we need a different kind of representative. I am that different kind of representative.
Your next Congressman,
Jay Ovittore
